Transom Glass — artificial skylights

Daylight, where there is no sky.

An artificial skylight is an LED fixture that reproduces the look of a clear sky and the feel of sun through an opening. For rooms that cannot have a window.

01 — How it works

Three things make it read as daylight.

01

A sky, not a lamp

A light engine sits behind a deep-blue diffusing panel. You see depth and open sky, not a glowing rectangle.

02

A beam, like sun

Light leaves the panel with direction, so it lands on walls and floors as a patch of sun with soft shadows.

03

Tuned through the day

Many models shift brightness and colour temperature, from cool midday to warm evening. Controls vary by model.

02 — Where it is used

Four rooms that never had a window.

  • 01BasementsThe room most often finished, and least often lit by anything but downlights.
  • 02Interior bathroomsNo exterior wall, no window. A skylight overhead changes the whole room.
  • 03Treatment roomsSpas and clinics need privacy and calm. Daylight without a window gives both.
  • 04OfficesDeep floor plates leave desks far from glass. This brings the sky to the middle.

03 — Mounting types

Four mounts. One for every ceiling.

Shown in section. The blue line is the lit face.

Recessed

Sits flush with the ceiling, like a real skylight shaft. Needs depth above the ceiling.

Best forRemodels with open joists; drop ceilings

Surface

Mounts below the finished ceiling. No cavity required.

Best forConcrete ceilings; finished basements

Wall-mounted

Hangs vertically and reads as a window on to open sky.

Best forInterior bathrooms; corridors

Linear

A long, narrow run of sky along a ceiling.

Best forCorridors; open offices

04 — Questions

Before you specify one.

How is this different from an LED panel?+

A flat panel is an even, glowing surface. An artificial skylight separates the blue of the sky from the white of the sun and gives the light a direction, so the eye reads depth above the ceiling and sunlight in the room.

How much ceiling depth does it need?+

It depends on the model and the mount. Recessed units need a cavity above the ceiling; surface and wall units need none. We confirm the required depth from the specification sheet before you order.

Can it be dimmed and controlled?+

Most models dim, and many adjust colour temperature or follow a daily schedule. The control method varies by model, so we match it to the switching or control system you already have.

Which manufacturer do you supply?+

We confirm the make, model and specification sheet with every quote, so you know exactly what you are buying before you commit.

What is the lead time?+

Units are ordered per job. The lead time is stated on your quote.
